About us

The Relu Data Support Service helps researchers of the Rural Economy and Land Use (Relu) Programme manage their data throughout the research lifecycle. It co-ordinates the archiving of Relu research data in established data centres to make them available for future research.

Relu has brought together research communities with different cultures and practices of data management and sharing and has been at the forefront of cross-disciplinary data management and sharing by developing a proactive data management policy and the first cross-council Data Support Service. Its systematic approach draws on best practice from its constituent Research Councils.

For the duration of the Relu Programme, the Relu Data Support Service (Relu-DSS) has provided proactive data management guidance and support to the Programme's researchers and has co-ordinated the archiving of interdisciplinary data collections at both the UK Data Archive and the Environmental Information Data Centre.

For the first time for the Research Councils, a portal brings together data and other research outputs and publications.

Relu funded a dedicated support service, co-ordinated between the UK Data Archive and the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) at Lancaster, to realise its data sharing policy.

This data policy expects researchers - with support from the Relu-DSS - to plan a data management strategy for their research and manage their data well throughout their research, with data archived at data centres funded by the Research Councils when research finishes.
