Archiving

archiving

All research data from Relu projects are digitally archived at the UK Data Archive and the Environmental Information Data Centre and made available for future research and education purposes.

Research data are submitted to the UK Data Archive within three months of the end of a project award.

After processing, social-science-oriented and agricultural data are archived at the UK Data Archive and environmental science data at the Environmental Information Data Centre of the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Lancaster.

Archived data and related publications can be discovered and accessed via this Knowledge Portal, as well as via the data catalogues of the two data centres.

Data are ideally prepared for archiving and deposited by the researchers involved in the research to avoid losing the knowledge of, and familiarity with, the data. To avoid lengthy preparations at the end of a project, it is strongly recommended that:

  • data managing and archiving is planned early on in a project
  • data management is carried out throughout a project
  • data are well described and documented during research

Otherwise time should be costed into research projects to prepare and collate materials for archiving at the end of research.
